Who can apply?

The University Honors Program has three possible entry points:

  1. Entering Freshmen: Most of our members apply to UHP as high school seniors. This allows students to have a supportive community of like-minded scholars as soon as they begin their time as a 49er.

  2. Continuing Freshman and rising Sophomores: We invite continuing UNC Charlotte students with 30 or less credit hours to apply to the University Honors Program. We accept applications from continuing students in the spring and fall semesters. In order to apply to the program, your current GPA must be at least a 3.4. Because the UHP curriculum is comparable to adding an academic minor, it is implausible (and sometimes impossible) for an upperclassman to join UHP without delaying graduation. For those with more than 30 earned credit hours, we encourage you to look at the many other honors programs at UNC Charlotte that work with juniors and seniors. You can find more information on these programs and various honor societies at honorscollege.uncc.edu.

  3. Transfer Students: We encourage transfer students with a 3.4 GPA and 30 or less credit hours to apply to the University Honors Program. We accept new applications from continuing students in the Spring and Fall semesters. The UHP Curriculum may be difficult to complete for those who have already attained an Associate’s Degree; however, we encourage all students to explore the possibility of departmental or college honors. You can find more information on these programs and various honor societies at honorscollege.uncc.edu.

We invite you to investigate the University Honors Program and apply to become an Honors Niner! If you would like to discuss your unique situation, call our office at (704) 687-7197.
